By Michael W. Raley
The disillusionment of the soul
Occurs over time,
Like how water erodes rock.
The weight of the water will wear
Grooves into the rock
Until a canyon is formed.
So it is with our souls,
The hurts, lies, and disappointments
Will weigh heavily on us
Until the young idealist
Is replaced by the old cynic.
Deep down, the cynic hopes for
Better days ahead,
Yet remains realistic.
